Walking tours could be adjusted to the education center needs and its students in order to make a more entertaining and enjoyable visit developing “other” aspects of the city and its history.

 

The Three Cultures in Toledo

An adapted-to-students version of the aformentioned, focused on the Toledo peaceful medieval coexistance and the heritage left in the city by Jews, Muslims and Christians.

The monuments included in thsi visit would be:

  • The Cathedral or the Church of San Román. depending on the budget of the education center.
  • Synagogue of  El Tránsito: free access for students.
  • Mosque of Cristo de la Luz. Price for students: 2,20 euros per person.

 

Walls and Gates

A fun experience to discover the main defence and acceses of medieval Toledo through its gates and bridges, including:

– Bisagra Gate, from the XVI th century.

– Gate of Alfonso VI, from the Xth century.

– Gate of the Jewish Quarter or Puerta del Cambrón, from the XVIIth century.

– And both medieval bridges in the city: San Martín and Alcántara.

 

Toledo in Literature

Some of the most significant writers and intelectuals in this country were born, lived or stayed in Toledo during the time the city was an important political and cultural center. Even during those times of decline, Toledo whas visited by artists, poets and writers looking for a place forzen in medieval times where they could long for the past, indulging in melancholy and nostalgia. Alfonso X el sabio, (the wise), Cervantes, Tirso de Molina, Lope de Vega, Santa Teresa de Ávila, Zorrilla, Bécquer or Benito Pérez Galdos are some of them. This is a walking tour to discover that they and their literary works could be found in every corner.

 

 

Duration: The walking tour will last around 3 hours – 3 hours and a half.

 

Panoramic: For those groups coming to Toledo with their own bus, the visit will include a panoramic tour to enjoy the wonderful views from the other side of the Tagus river. Regarding those individuals coming from Madrid by high speed train (AVE), the panoramic tour could be made by taxi (10 euros aprox.) from the Toledo Train Station.

 

Monuments: Every monument included in the tour will be thoroughly explained by the guide.

 

Contents: Even though the walking tour has a common thread (The Three Cultures, El Greco, the Jewish Quarter,…) I will make alussion to every simple and important aspect of the city: handycrafts, cultural heritage, evolution of the old town, festivities, etc.
